Longtime BHS Educator Named VFW Massachusetts Teacher of the Year

The Brockton Public School District is thrilled to announce that Brockton High School teacher Neil McCarthy has been named the Veterans of Foreign Wars Massachusetts Teacher of the Year.

Mr. McCarthy was honored during the VFW Massachusetts 102nd Annual Convention and Awards Banquet on Saturday, June 11, in Westborough. He was previously named Teacher of the Year by VFW Post 6258 in Halifax.

“I’ve had the pleasure of working with Neil McCarthy for more than 20 years, beginning when we were both teachers at Brockton High School,” said Mike Thomas, Superintendent of Schools. “He is the quintessential educator and is truly deserving of this recognition.”

Neil McCarthy joined the Brockton Public Schools in 1998 as a Physics and Physical Science teacher. He also teaches Physics at the Wentworth Institute of Technology.

“Neil McCarthy is a dedicated teacher who develops creative and fun ways for his students to learn about science. He truly enjoys working with his students and challenges them to explore the real-world applications of science,” said Brockton High School Principal Cynthia Burns.

Neil holds a Master of Science degree in Applied Physics and a Bachelor of Science Degree from UMass Boston.
