The Brockton Public Schools administers a social-emotional screener for students in grades 3-12, twice during the academic year, in the fall and spring.
Brockton Public Schools are dedicated to fostering the social, emotional, and academic growth of every student. To better support our students, we are implementing a universal screener called The SSIS Brief + Mental Health Scales. This tool will help us understand students' feelings about themselves, their environment, and their community.
What is The SSIS Brief + Mental Health Scales?
- Purpose: This assessment helps us identify students’ strengths and areas where they might need additional support.
- Focus Areas: The scales cover various aspects of SEL including self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. They also address internalizing and externalizing emotional behavioral concerns.
- Duration: The assessment consists of 30 questions and takes approximately 8-10 minutes to complete.
Why is This Important?
- Informed Support: By understanding students’ social and emotional needs, we can plan more effectively to provide tailored instructional and programmatic support.
- Holistic Approach: This helps us ensure that every student receives the support they need to thrive both academically and personally.
Participation Details:
- Who: All students in grades 3-12.
- When: During the week of April 28-May 2
- How: The assessment will be conducted online during the school day.
