Raising a Reader Launch – George School Preschool

Principal Natalie Pohl introduces the Raising a Reader program to George School preschool families, explaining its goals, structure, and ways parents can support literacy development at home. Summary: Principal Pohl welcomes families and explains that Raising a Reader is a new literacy partnership designed to build strong early reading habits through repetition, conversation, and engagement. She highlights that 90% of brain development occurs by age five, emphasizing how dialogic reading — asking “who, what, where, when, why, and how” questions — enhances vocabulary and comprehension. Each student will receive a red Raising a Reader bag containing four culturally diverse books that rotate weekly. Morning session families participate from October 27 to January 30, and afternoon session families from March 2 to June 4.
