BROCKTON- The Brockton Public Schools are launching a new communication platform, ParentSquare, to simplify how schools connect with families and foster more consistent, inclusive engagement.
With one source for newsletters, messages, calendar listings, and more, the district is consolidating multiple tools into a single, easy-to-use system for both staff and families that is more comprehensive, inclusive and accessible than any tool the district has used before.
The district’s goal is to improve how families receive information, making it more accessible, timely, and responsive to different needs. With communications automatically translated into families’ preferred languages – English, Haitian Creole, French, Spanish, Portuguese and more -- and options to receive updates by email, app, voice, or text, ParentSquare supports meaningful engagement across the district’s diverse community.
“This new platform is purpose-built to make families feel more connected with their children’s schools and classrooms in a much more meaningful and effortless way,” Superintendent Priya Tahiliani said. “Our hope is that ParentSquare will fundamentally change how our schools and families engage with one another. For the first time, BPS is able to offer families access to more than recurring school newsletters and districtwide alerts, but also classroom updates and individualized connections between educators and families related to individual students’ learning.”
The ParentSquare app is available in the Apple app store and Google Play store, but an app is not required for families and educators to begin utilizing the platform. Parents of Brockton Public Schools students can visit www.parentsquare.com/signin at any time and enter the email address or phone number associated with their student’s profile to get started. Once families register, they will be able to personalize their alert preferences and engage in 1-to-1 conversations with educators.
By adopting ParentSquare, BPS is for the first time offering a district-supported platform to school leaders and educators that connects them directly with families. The tool replaces a variety of third-party platforms, giving families a reliable one-stop resource for staying connected.
The move toward a more comprehensive engagement tool is driven by research which shows that parent engagement in schools is closely linked to improved student behavior and higher academic achievement, as well as district staff feedback on how family communication could be improved.
